Dreaming of a Raven

Raven

After attaining the suitcase full of books, the friends gorged themselves upon the great collection of Western authors. With the headman gone to a convention, the boys were free to read as their hearts desired. As they read more and more, Luo went and relayed the magic literature to the Little Seamstress. During one of those trips, A raven showed up and the mountain pass. After this occurrence, the narrator had a dream, or rather a nightmare about the pass. In this nightmare, the narrator scanned the ridge for the raven, not finding it in its usual resting spot. Immediately after he looked back to the mountain pass, the Seamstress had fallen off the ridge. When the narrator and Luo got down to her body, they saw her head had been cracked open when she fell to her death. Then, Luo started to bleed out of his left nostril, mouth and one of his ears. After that, the narrator woke with a start, and relayed the dream to Luo, begging that he keep the Seamstress away from the mountain pass.

"She had folded double on impact, and her head had cracked wide open. There were two great gashes in the back of her skull, around which the blood was congealing. One of the gashes extended all the way to her finely turned forehead. Her mouth was twisted, the lips retracted to expose pink gums and clenched teeth, as if she was screaming, but there was no sound, only the smell of blood." (117)
