Dai Sijie [Acquaintances]
Dai Sijie was born in 1954 in China. He attended re-education in the Sichuan province for three years from 1971 to 1974. After his "re-education" he attended high school and university. In college he studied art history. In 1984 he went to France on a scholarship and began a prominent career in film. His first novel was "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress," in 2005 he made a film on his novel. The novel translated into English became an international bestseller, except in China where it was banned for the manner in which it painted the Chinese government during the re-reeducation time period.
Currently Dai Sijie lives, writes, and produces in Paris, France.
