The narrator and Lou arrive at the small, mountainside village. When the two boys arrive in the village, named Phoenix in the Sky, the headman and the village citizens go through the boy's belongings and personal items to get rid of any unnecessary items or toys they are carrying. The village headman eventually comes across the Narrator's violin. Since the villagers are not as civilized and modern as the two boys, they do not know what a violin is. They initially plan to burn the violin after deeming it a toy, but the narrator explains that it is a musical instrument. Not sure what song to play to demonstrate the use of the violin because he only knows western music, the narrator is stuck until Lou renames a western song to sound chinese. The new name is "Mozart is thinking of Chairman Mao."
