The old mill is the home to an old man who knows all of the mountain's folk songs. It is where many villagers send their maize to get grounded, the place is also infested with lice. Four-Eyesonce tried to get the old miller to recite his songs, but instead he accidently insulted the old man and was kicked out. Luo and the narrator succeede in getting the songs by tricking the old miller into thinking that they were part of the revolutionary cadre.
