The Little Chinese Seamstress, never identified with a name, experiences the largest character change throughout the last portion of the novel. She encounters significant events and emotions, as well. After finding out that she is pregnant with Luo's baby, she experiences fear, anxiety and anguish. She then goes on to
invest her trust with Luo's best friend, the Narrator and allows her fate to be put in his hands as he arranges for the
abortion of her child. Once, Luo returns she makes a bold decision. She chooses to become a "city girl". Regarding her
physical transformation, she sports a ponytail with ribbon, white tennis shoes and a
Mao jacket. She tells Luo that she must leave without much affection or obvious gratitude. As an ending statement, "a woman's beauty is a treasure beyond price." (184).
