Everything Four-Eyes does is affected by the simple urge to find a way to get back home.
He pushes himself beyond his limits, and does not appreciate help from Luo and the narrator. They say that if your parents are part of the burgeios class, the working class who are
enemies of the government, you have a 3 in a thousand chance of going home. Yet, even with the looming and ultimate goal of getting back home, the characters take
risks to brighten up their lives, even though they could result in punishment. Will this halt a potential trip back home? Regardless, determination is vital to keep the possibility of getting back to civilization alive.
Maybe, the narrator's argument with Four-Eyes will be a good thing, considering the ultimate goal to get back home.
