A Chance Encounter with the Old Miller

Chinamanbeard

The Narrator and Luo disguise themselves as important people working under Mao.  Their whole point of doing this is to get some of the original folk songs from the old Miller to give back to Four-Eyes.  They hope that if they present these songs to him, he will give up some of the secret books that are so hard to get away from him.  After reading Balzac they have become addicted to Western Literature and the rush that they get from reading something that is highly illegal and could send them strait to jail for years if they get caught.  When they arrive at the old Miller's home he is very surprised to see people of such stature in front of him, waiting for him to sing.  The Miller offers them some pebbles and a sauce and some moonshine and starts to sing.  The Narrator and Luo are mesmerized by the way that the old Miller's stomach moves and its contortions.  They get a kick out of that until Luo accidentally poured lamp oil into their moonshine glasses and they drank it.
