Luo and the Narrator

Friendship

Luo and the Narrator go through a lot together within this first section. They are brought upon the mountain Phoenix of the Sky for reeducation. It seems as thought they will be spending the rest of their life with each other. They have a mutual relationship due to the fact that they spend almost ever second of everyday together. Throughout their time on the mountain so far they have had many adventures. From hauling the crap up the mountain side to the point where it was dripping down their back, to them changing the time on the alarm clock to get a few more or less hours of sleep, they have a odd but close relationship with each other that many people would yearn to have with their friends.

Alarm-clock
The two are almost destined to be together and they also think alike. Like they have one mind for two bodies. Like when they thought of the idea to change the time according to the mood that they were in that day, "Luo had a brainstorm: with his little finger he slid the hands of the clock back by one hour. We got back into bed to enjoy our lie-in, which was all sweeter knowing that the village headman was pacing to and fro outside, puffing on his long bamboo pipe." (Sijie, 15). This just shows how their friendship works to make their stay as comfortable as humanly possible.
