Losing My House

Speaking of crap, did you ever look at someone's house before they had a baby and then again right after? When I came home from the hospital with my first, I didn't even have a place to lay him down (he was four weeks early). A week later, I couldn't find my living room floor! Think about what babies need - first a bassinet, then very quickly a crib, baby seat, stroller, swing, toys, bottles, changing tables, wipes, diapers, diaper pails, bouncy seat, bath seat - where do you put all this stuff? My living room looked like a Babies-R-Us exploded! If you don't have closet space or an attached garage, everything has to live in your living room. Is that why it's called a living room?

Why does an eight pound human require more space than a 200 pound man?

I'm telling you that being a mom is a great thing, but boy, you need a lot of patience, lots of space and lots of extra time.

We had a small cape that was basically five rooms - a small kitchen, attached dining room, living room, master bedroom and small second bedroom.  The living room was where all activity took place.  We had beautiful wood floors with an area rug, and every inch of floor space had something on it - either a swing, a car seat, a bouncy seat, the stroller (the garage was below the main level) toys, baby blankets and everything else that goes with keeping a colicky baby calm.
