A military fatigue shirt with the scent of Gardenia, some apple sauce, a few camping trips, travels around the world and family are all symbols of important times in my life. They hold equal weight in my mind, body and soul. Looking back I can honestly say that I was happy, I was loved and throughout it all I never felt alone. Just as important, I managed to hold on to those good old fashioned mannerism, values and respect that was shown to me by my grandmother, parents and ex-husband.
This summer I will be visiting Egypt and Ghana and I can't help but to think if that if I did not have exposure to the outside world early in life, possibly my I would be a different person today.
