I was a
military dependent for about ten years. I am not pro-war but I am pro-troops. I have to make that distinction because in no way am I glorifying the military. I married a guy that just so happened to enlist in the military right after we got married. As a dependent we traveled a great deal. I enjoyed traveling around the country with him. He was my best friend, my confidant and most of all the man that reminded me of my past. We lived on various military installations but the one that stands out is the base at
Peterson's Air Force. Although he was in the Army we were assigned to live in Air Force quarters. Everything was much better than the Army's facilities from the
PX to actual homes to the friendliness of your neighbors. I learned military time and jargon quickly and I also learned that countless days my husband would be gone into the field for practice.
I missed him terribly but I knew that this was his dream and I had to support him. I decided that while he was gone I would work on finishing my college degree so I did. I earned a BS in Economics. Not bad for a military dependent!
