In July 1972, Jared
Diamond visited Papua New Guinea, where he studied bird evolution. While he was
continuing his study he encountered a remarkable local politician named Yali.
Although Yali was not properly educated like Europeans he radiated charisma and
energy through his words. Jared Diamond began to talk about issues around the
world. Yali suddenly asked Jared "how the ancestors of his own people had
reached New Guinea over the last tens of thousands of years, and how white
Europeans had colonized New Guinea within the last 200 years?" Jared could not
answer the question. He is now on his quest to answering 30 years old
question.
