Aftermath

Even after all of the death that had taken place, there was little sorrow showed. Many people had no time to pity a poor man who had appeared to have gone crazy. Even the high society failed to mourn one of their own. The funerals of both Daisy and Tom were filled almost entirely with people from the Midwest. And only a handful of attendees were from the east coast, let alone East Egg. Gatsby had taken off, leaving no trace that he had ever lived in the area. His giant house never glowed again and almost reciprocally the green light across the water from him had been extinguished as well.  Most people thought that he had fled to avoid all of the attention, but others speculated that he may have blown his cover or other ideas of the sort. I never saw him again, though I did receive a letter from him that had been sent from Mexico.

Dear Nick,
I am terribly sorry for leaving so abruptly. I could not afford all of the press exposure as I'm sure you understand. I do truly wish that I could have said goodbye, old sport, but there was nothing left in New York for me. I really hope that we run into each other again, some time in the future, but until then.
     Your Friend,
     Jay Gatsby

With time everything went back to normal, the Buchanan's house was bought by another wealthy couple and Gatsby's mansion was also sold. The owner, whose history was just as mysterious as Gatsby's, could not fill the shoe that Gatsby had left.
