The Accident

After Tom and Daisy's affair was revealed, the two lovers fled the city. Driving home, Daisy hit Myrtle Wilson, who had run into the street. Taking her for dead, Gatsby and Daisy sped off. She was found unconscious by her frightened husband, George. Mrytle was rushed to the hospital where she received immediate attention.

Within The Great Gatsby, death is an apparent theme.  It exists in the literal and metaphorical form.  For example Gatsby eventually dies in the end from the death of his dream of once having Daisy again.  Yet, Gatsbys death also exists in the metaphorical sense; for when Gatsby recreates himself he essentially kills his old self in the purpose of pursuing his dream.  Nick also relates death to modern society.  He touches on the common fear of death when he states how life will always draw one back to their roots, essentially killing all future dreams
