[Tom Takes Charge] Alternate Ending (1)

Pool_dead

Observing the relationships of those famously wealthy who spend money frivolously, one feels only envy. Tom's relationship to Daisy seemed the perfect fairytale: Tom's affluence provided the endless quantities of money needed to support Daisy's extravagant lifestyle, while Daisy barely had to lift a finger. Even though Tom had no issues with money spent, he knew that their relationship was failing. His own affair with Myrtle was a much needed break from Daisy, but Tom felt jealousy seeing Daisy flirt with someone other than him. Tom was previously content letting life take its course, but his life now overflowed with emotional turmoil, and he needed to find a solution.

While Tom needed to deal with life's struggles, Gatsby was able to relax.

"You know, old sport, I have not spent time at my pool. I shall try to relax today," said Gatsby to Nick.

"Suit yourself. Have fun," Nick replied as he made his way back to his house.

At the exact moment that Gatsby exuded the feeling of leisure through enjoyment of simple things, Tom Buchanan began conceiving the plan that would end his life. Tom's desire to murder Gatsby may have seemed irrational, but Tom viewed his actions as reasonable. From his perspective, Gatsby's very existence threatened his perfect marriage. His seamless plan would therefore rid the world of the person who was corrupting the minds of others.

Tom formulated the plan that would both allow him to quickly kill his nemesis and keep Daisy occupied. He would insist that Daisy spend the day with Jordan in New York City while he would sneak stealthily onto Gatsby's premises. Tom's plan needed immediate action, so he left to locate Daisy without delay.

"Daisy, my love! What are you up to?" called Tom, his voice ringing throughout the house.

"I'm reading this lovely novel in the sitting room!" replied Daisy.

"I would like you to go to the city with Jordan and enjoy yourself. It is a marvelous day out, and you must get out of the house once in a while."

"Spending time out in the city sounds like a great idea, darling! I admit I have been feeling slightly bored. I'll get ready to leave right now!"

After Daisy departed, Tom hurriedly retrieved his gun from its hiding place in a seldom-visited part of the house. Next, he quickly got into his boat and made his way across the bay to West Egg. As he advanced the shore, Gatsby's elaborately decorated mansion came into sight. Progressing forward onto the property, he heard the gentle sounds of a pool at the rear of the mansion, leading him to believe that Gatsby would be occupied and would not put up a fight. Approaching the pool, he realized that he was correct and killing Gatsby would be an easy task. Tom took aim and pulled the trigger. Gatsby, host of grandiose parties that brought together West and East Egg and the one whose name was attached to local legend, was no more.

Nearby, Nick lay, reclining in the shade and taking sips of tea, when a loud gun shot was heard. Knowing that Tom was unhappy with Gatsby, Nick immediately feared the worst.
