"I didn't know you were coming,” I said sharply.
“I wasn’t planning on it. But Tom was a little—a little occupied. So I thought I’d make the trip,” Daisy responded, almost as a reflex.
“So he doesn’t know you’re here?”
“No. I’m out shopping for the day. It's nice to see you again, it has been a while since we last seen each other. Should we head in?”
“Yes. Fine.” When she spoke, she didn’t have the same ring as before. It was as if something in Daisy had died, perhaps the slightest twinge of hope at true love.
