Everyone has friends that are really their friends, and everyone has friends that use them to get thing but are not their true friends. In Gatsby's case, he had very many fake friends, and as we see by the turnout for his funeral, very little true friends. The difference between true and fake friends plays a major role in wrapping up Gatsby's life and showing his true colors. If we would not learn about Gatsby's true friends and his fake friends, our perception of Gatsby would be blurred. We would think that he had tons of friends that loved him. Gatsby's death reveals more about his character than any other part of the story.
