In the novel, Gatsby's death is the representation of the economy crashing in the 1920's. After the death of Myrtle Wilson everything in Gatsby's life began to fall apart, resulting in tragedy. Gatsby's death itself is a spitting image of the stock market crash in that it came out of nowhere and everything changed after it. Gatsby's funeral represents the few "real" people that were left after Gatsby's death just as there were few people with "real" wealth after Black Tuesday.
